Designed Magic Studio that boosted AI feature adoption from 8% to 43% of MAU
Canva had 150M+ users but AI features were buried in submenus and felt disconnected from the core editing flow. Only 8% of users had tried any AI feature, and the AI background remover had a 34% completion rate because the UI required 5 clicks to reach.
Redesigned the AI feature surface as "Magic Studio" - a unified panel that appears contextually based on what the user is editing. Used progressive disclosure: one-click quick actions (remove background, expand image) on the toolbar, with a deeper studio for complex generation. Ran 32 usability sessions across 6 countries to validate the interaction model.
AI feature discovery jumped from 8% to 43% of MAU. Background remover completion rate hit 78%. Magic Studio drove a 22% increase in premium conversions. Canva CEO cited it as the most impactful product launch of the year.

Adobe needed to integrate generative AI into Photoshop without disrupting the workflow of 30+ year veteran users. Early prototypes confused power users who felt AI features "got in the way."
Designed a non-intrusive integration model where AI features extend existing tools rather than replacing them. Generative fill appears as a contextual option within the existing selection tools. Built an "AI confidence" indicator that shows users when generation quality might be lower.
Generative fill adoption hit 67% among active Photoshop users within 3 months. Negative feedback from power users dropped from 42% to 11%. The pattern became the template for AI integration across 6 other Adobe apps.
